Washington, D.C. vs.............. (comparison, Boston, Chicago, size)

What city is an equal and fair comparison for D.C.?

I'm thinking Boston or SF.

I want to include all four regions in this.

Southern:
-D.C.

Northeast:
-Boston

West Coast:
-San Francisco

Midwest:
None....
St. Louis, Cleveland, Detroit and, Kansas city remind me more of Baltimore than D.C.

Chicago for midwest?

Chicago may be to big for DC at the moment but both LA and Chicago come closer to DC than to NYC. Dont let boosters tell you otherwise

Depends on the criteria, City, MSA, CSA but overall think that Boston and SF are most similar on city and broader area though that is on size and wealth etc.

DC as a metro has elements of of Northeastern city and elements of of sunbelt city, especially in the burbs so not sure there is a perfect comparator from that perspective.

Sacramento? maybe.. its not very stereotypical Californian. Partially because its in the Central Valley.
