Is anyone here knowledgeable about retail inventory management software, specifically supermarkets. Do you know what they might use as a program to track inventory, change prices, etc.

What I'm mainly curious about is if the inventory (specifically pricing) can outputted along with other vital information (whatever item numbers and whatnot) to an Excel spreadsheet or something.

I was mainly wondering, say I wanted to take a Store's Inventory (Item Name, Item Code, Manufacturer, Size, Price, etc) and upload it to a website so customers could order online... would the higher-ups over at the store be able to provide that info in some sort of spreadsheet (like an excel file) or does the software generally not allow exporting?

I've never even worked retail, so not sure how "up to date" it is, as an inventory export seems like a relatively simple concept nowadays.

I'm not too concerned about how much sale or payment data at this point in the game.

(I've asked in a couple forums, as I'm not sure the best place to ask, so sorry if you've seen this already.)

I think I know where you are going with this. The direct answer is yes, almost any Point Of Sale/Inventory software will have some type of file export mechanism, typically CSV or some such (Excel has changed multiple times on its spreadsheet data file requirements and trying to follow those is a time-waster).

The greater answer is that no-way no-how is that pricing info going to be given out. There are a number of reasons for this, the most obvious of which is competitive advantage. Also, chain prices fluctuate not only based on specials and sale pricing, but each store will have different goods pricing except for the area flyer advertising. Price points change due to demographics, rent costs and other factors.
