It's January. I've been outside doing yard work. In a t-shirt while getting a little overheated. Because it's sunny and almost 60 degrees.

I've lived here long enough to know that while it's warmer than average, this isn't totally unusual. This graph from the National Weather Service is a helpful visual:

Of course we had a few near 0 days a few weeks ago. Followed by record snowfall. But that's the thing, it's more that we have the potential for short periods of harsh weather.

Yet people on these forums and elsewhere often think our climate is more like interior Alaska.

I wonder where this comes from? Is this all a secret plan to keep people from moving here, lol?

In any case, as much as the warm sunny weather is nice, I'm ready for more snow and cold. The ski resorts need another layer of powder and we need the snowpack for water.

Great data. We definitely could use more snowpack in the higher elevations.

It was nice to mountain bike on (mostly) dry trails in shorts today. Sunny, but loved the big moody sky from the south as the next storm blows in over the Owyhee Range. Looking forward to some freshies this weekend up the mountain.

All of those who say they like this mild weather will hopefully remember this when the forest starts burning early this summer.

Flew back from LAX yesterday and the lack of snow across the Sierra's was shocking...could be a pretty bad summer if this keeps up.

Totally agree. I prefer winter to be winter, looking forward to more snow. But that's not going to stop me from enjoying a warm spell

It's an El Niño year. It is expected to weaken this summer and next winter will be more "normal". The snowpack up north is critically low. There is growing concern about the upcoming summer and how dry the biosphere will be.

It's not as though hating this weather would change it.

53% of normal year to date. More snow is coming as the quote-unquote atmospheric river arrives. Good thing last year was a doosy for snow pack.

Missing the point entirely I see.
