It's great to see the Boise food scene thriving even through the pandemic. Sure, some restaurants closed, but also lots of new ones opening. It's an exceptionally tough industry, so much respect for the entrepreneurs willing to take a large risk for their passion. This thread is a place to highlight positive foodie news. Please, there are lots of other places to complain (or start your own thread), this isn't the place for it.
First up, four Treasure Valley chefs nominated for James Beard Awards. Very happy to see these folks get some accolades for their hard work. We love Kibrom Milash's restaurant, which is about a mile from our house, wonderful food with great service. I've yet to make it to Amano out in Caldwell but it's high on my list -- interested to hear from others if you've been.
Next up, the Great Boise Bagel Battle. Three new bagel places, in addition to the existing two great options. We've tried and really like Goldstein's (NYC style) and Good Times (Montreal style)... I find Goldstein's to be slightly more bready though still appropriately chewy, and Good Times more doughy with a crispier outer shell. IMO, both are great. Haven't tried Freedom Bagel in Meridian, but hope to give it a try next time we're in that area.
Finally, another "best of" list for Boise. Specifically, I'll say that Alyonka Russian Cuisine is wonderful and also in our neighborhood. [I realize all things Russian are understandably suspect right now, but rest assured that the owners are against the war.] If you go, I highly recommend the Shuba appetizer and Honey Cake dessert, and the entrees are all excellent.

The owners of that restaurant are also involved with the annual Russian Food Fest.
A friend claims Nampa has some of the best Thai food in the valley. I don't get out that way very often so I can't say. Besides, I usually end up at Nahm Thai & Burmese in Boise because it's close and so dang good. Like, really good, on par with what you can get in SF/Bay Area.
Nara Ramen to expand to two additional locations in Boise! One at Bown Crossing and another near the 184/84 junction on W Franklin Rd.
We've really enjoy the Nara Ramen already on State St, some of the tastiest ramen I've had. Glad to see them thriving and expanding.
