What's up with that? They came here to visit this weekend, and they complained about Austin. They would rather have the humidity in Houston than our dry heat. They drove me nuts. Who would prefer Houston to Austin? Old folks, I guess!

Well, I can think of a few reasons to like Houston over Austin, but the weather ain't one of them! Maybe it's a good thing they prefer to be 3 hours away?

i wish my in-laws preferred Houston to Austin. It'd save us the trouble of eventually moving.

They would have stayed weeks if I had let them.

Houston is a bigger city and has many things that Austin does not have, but I can't imagine anyone liking the weather better (of all things) or the landscape. I think your in laws may need to go have a psychiatric evaluation done. Maybe all that air pollution and muggy weather in Houston has pushed them over the edge

Actually, some parts of Houston (as much as I may complain about it) have good landscaping. Not many mind you, but if someone hasn't seen the ugly parts then they would be happy with it. The weather is similar to Austin, except the humidity is higher in Houston. Houston does have lots of things Austin doesn't and I can happily say all our inlaws are there and it's nice to not have them that close. My sisters in laws live in Taylor so I only laught at the horror she goes through having to see them everyday

My parents (who live in Houston for another week) were here this weekend, and they said Austin was hotter than Houston. I think it was just a fluke because there was so little wind this weekend. Normally Houston is much hotter.

Dry heat? Austin does NOT have dry heat. Maybe in your dreams. I've lived in both Houston and Austin and mowing my lawn in both cities brought about the same amount of sweat and number of beers consumed. There's not a significant difference difference. Dry heat is like that in Las Vegas.

Somebody tell me there's "dry heat" in Austin I'd probably leave town too.

Yeah, that explains why both cities have around the same median age (31).

I prefer Houston to Austin mainly because of the difference in people's attitudes. I find Austinites rather provincial and stuck on themselves, not unlike Dallasites. And I'm 33, if it helps.
