My husband and I are looking for a house in Atlanta and love the idea of living in an up and coming "transitional" hood... we have looked in west end, westview, oakland city and vicinity... any help appreciated, wow, there are some awesome homes in "I'm not so sure" neighborhoods...
1. Budget max 70k
2. House/Condo/Townhome? House
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home) work all around town
4. Children(public school vs. private) None
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two either
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not? yes
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. happy mix
Buying, want to be close to the Beltline... I love running my dog with me on my bike!
Thanks!

If you want to live in a neighborhood that's close to the Beltline, cheap (sub 200k), and convenient to MARTA rail, look at Adair Park, West End, and Westview. Perhaps also Mozley Park. Be quick about it, though, because they just started construction of the Beltline Westside trail and prices are only going to rise.

On the eastside, consider Ormewood Park. Beautiful neighborhood with great 1920s-1940s era housing stock and convenient to the amenities of Grant Park and East Atlanta Village. And, for being on the eastside amid established neighborhoods, it's still relatively affordable. It's not too hard to find homes here for around 200k or less in some cases. It will be relatively close to the Beltline in the short term when the Eastside trail is expanded south.
