FEMA’s National Continuity Program’s (NCP) Integrated Public Alert and Warning System Program Management Office (PMO) was recognized by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) for assisting in the recovery of missing children nationwide. NCP has been working since 2006 to develop the technology known as the IPAWS system to help authorities deliver Wireless Emergency Alerts for severe weather or AMBER Alerts for missing children on most cell phones and other alerts and warnings through a single portal to multiple communication pathways at the same time. Receiving the award from NCMEC CEO John Ryan on behalf of the IPAWS Team is (from right to left) Antwane Johnson, IPAWS Director, Wade Witmer, IPAWS Deputy Director, Mark Lucero IPAWS Chief Engineer, and intern Lauren Cisek. System Architect Gary Ham and Engineer Neil Graves are in the back row. (Program Manager Charles McCobb is not pictured.) FEMA Photo/Marlene Phillips
