This Pelican is being held by a wildlife worker. Hurricane Ike disrupted the wildlife, such as birds. The US Fish and Wildlife Service rescued this endangered pelican and turned it over to the Houston Society for the Protection of Animals (SPCA), a licensed agency to treat wildlife. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) works with government agencies and local volunteer groups to help care for pets, protected, and endangered species after a disaster.
