The September floodwaters brought by rains from Hurricanes Dennis and Floyd left great devastation - including damage from almost four feet of water that invaded the Eastern Star Baptist Church in Tarboro. Congresswoman Eva M. Clayton (NC-1) pitched in to help clean up the church, the inside of which was gutted in order to save the building itself.
