Tierra - Art, Garden, Wine

Tierra is located at 312 N School Street in Ukiah, CA and features area artists, wines, and a garden for public enjoyment. Each month Tierra features a local artist and displays their works within the storefront. The most recent artist is Nicole Paisley Martensen, who specializes in making small art pieces which consist of photographs encased in beeswax. The photographs are pictures taken from the Dustbowl era. The gardens at Tierra feature drought tolerant and Mediterranean climate plants available for purchase. The gardens are separated into two sections with the first being a border garden and the second in the main central courtyard.

The wine section at Tierra features local vintners from the Mendocino Valley. Tierra offers tasting, glass pours, and sales of the wines on location. The wines currently being offered are Chiarito, Cole Bailey, Frey, Pettrone, Rivino, and Raye's Hill.

Tierra was founded by Nicholas Thayer, who moved to the area from France. He wanted to recreate some of the shops he frequented in France and bring them to Ukiah. When the property was first purchased it consisted of a rundown 1870 house that was zoned for a commercial entity. The property was restored during a three year process before Tierra was opened.
