Seal Beach Sportfishing

Seal Beach Sport Fishing is a popular sport in Los Angeles, California. As such an important sport there are a variety of venues offering sport fishing charters since one must be out in the deeper waters of the Pacific Ocean for real sport. Seal Beach Sportfishing Charters can be found five miles from Long Beach, close to the San Gabriel River and Alamitos Bay.

Seal Beach was known as Bay City until 1911. It was named Seal Beach because of the harbor seals, which still frequent the sandy area. The seals come out to bask in the sun, after a workout fishing. It is one of two places in California to see true seals. Other beaches are plentiful with sea lions. The difference between the species is their ears. Sea Lions have actual flaps for ears, whereas seals have small holes for hearing, but no actual flap or covering.

There is a small pier at Seal Beach for sport fishing, though most of the fish caught here are small. They also do not have fish cleaning sheds or canneries. Roughly two tons of commercial fish are found in the area each year. Barracuda, lobster, rockfish, and rock bass are along the pier.
