Quady Winery

There are numerous opportunities for wine lovers to explore and sample wines in Northern California. The number is actually mind-boggling. If, however, the visitor is looking for the more favorable dessert wines and ports the number of choices is greatly diminished. That's where Quady Winery stands out as one of the best port (Starboard, as they like to call it) producers in the area. Quady specializes in flavorful dessert-type wines made from less-popular Muscat grape varieties. Andrew and Laurel Quady's wine endeavors began quite modestly after settling in California's Central Valley. In 1977 they built a small winery behind their home and worked evenings and weekends in search of the perfect dessert wine. While visiting Quady Winery tourists are drawn to Mike's Place, an excellent spot to hang out for good wine and a fun time. The winemakers guide their guests through an exciting tasting tour of their library port wines made with Portuguese varietal grapes. Visitors may even obtain advice on the perfect cigar to go with that particular wine. There are plenty of comfortable spots to relax and enjoy a great glass of port and, if desired, a good cigar. Quady Winery was awarded the best overall wine producer in the U.S.A. for 2009 from the International Wine and Spirits competition.
