Museum of the American West

The Museum of the American West is also considered the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. Though the various museums as part of the complex are older, the Autry National Center was not formed until 2003. A merger of the Autry Museum of Western Heritage with the Southwest Museum of the American Indian and Women of the West Museum has offered visitors plenty of American West history.

These museums combine stories, experiences, and perceptions of the people that used to live in the Old West. It is located in Griffith Park, with more than 500,000 pieces of art on display and in storage. A lot of the pieces are art and artifacts that have to do with American Indian cultures. It is considered the largest collection of Native American artifacts. There are two research libraries, including the Braun and Autry that offer historical information necessary for students of the American West to learn. They also have public and school age programs to help teach new generations about the past.

There are summer night programs, family activities, book signings, store events, and much more that visitors can enjoy. There are also chances for donations should anyone wish to add to the collection.
