Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach is a small seaside town in California about three miles south of the Los Angeles International Airport. The town measures just under four square miles and has just over two miles worth of beachfront. One of the main attractions in the town is the Manhattan Beach Pier, a 928-foot pier stretching into the ocean at the end of Manhattan Beach Boulevard. It is a open for fishing year-round and is surrounded by 48 acres of park land in addition to the beach. The pier is the second pier built at the site and the original one was built in 1901 on the same site as today's pier. Many of the residents of Manhattan Beach arrived after World War II and several were soldiers who had visited the town while the war was going. They returned to work in the defense industry in South Bay and built homes near their workplace. Today the town is home to two shopping malls, the Downtown Shopping Mall and the Village Mall. There are also several restaurants including Brewco, Cupcakes Couture of Manhattan Beach, Fronz's Steak and Seafood, Mama D's Original Italian Kitchen, Memphis Café at the Beach, Shark's Cove Restaurant and Sports Bar and Twelve and Highland.
