Los Angeles Philharmonic


The Los Angeles Philharmonic offers residents and visitors to L.A. a chance to enjoy professional classical music performances. Philharmonic performances are schedule for two seasons per year, the first running from October through June, and than a later summer session from July through September. The Philharmonic has received a variety of critical acclaim and is often viewed as one of the more modern, trend-setting symphony orchestras. The orchestra was founded in 1919 and played its first concert less than a month after forming. The symphony orchestra has featured a variety of guest and celebrity directors including Michael Tilson Thomas, Simon Rattle, Leonard Slatkin, and Bramwell Tovey. The Philharmonic is a popular destination for field trips and group tours. Visitors are able to enjoy a tour of the facilities, as well as performances. The education at the Philharmonic is top-of-the line and includes a youth orchestra program, concert talks, composer's fellowships, and a variety of other opportunities for young performers of classical music. Fans of the symphony orchestra can become supporters and members and receive special discounts and access to a variety of special concert and fundraising events. They symphony orchestra performs at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, a stainless steel structure designed by architect Frank Gehry. The building offers state-of-the-art indoor acoustics, as well as cutting edge exterior architecture.
