Kaibab Petroglyphs

Those who enjoy hiking and exploring nature will love a trip to the Kaibab National Forest where you can find a collection of Petroglyphs known as the Kaibab Petroglyphs. There are prehistoric sites in the park and each features a look into the culture, expression, and communication of the native people of the area. The first of the three areas, the Clover Ruin, is located near the Williams District Ranger Station and is believed to have been the Cohonina seasonal hunting camp from 900 A.D. The second location is the Keyhole Sink Canyone where petroglyphs show hunting and animals from long ago. This area is about eight miles from Williams. The Kaibab Forest features a variety of prairies, plateaus, peaks, and canyons. There is plenty of explore and a lot of places where visitors can find quiet solitude and peace, as well as adventure and wildlife. Elevations in the park range between 3,000 and 10,500-feet, the highest of which is found at the peak of Kendrick Mountain. Hikers should be aware of the climate in the area which is uncomfortably warm during the day during the summer, but summer thunderstorms can cool the evenings to the 50 degree range. Snow often occurs in the winter months.
