Horse and Barrel

Founded in 2007 by local businessman and horse lover Ryan Van Cleave, Horse and Barrel offers tours of local vineyards on horseback. The trail rides take place in Calaveras County, which was once the heart of California's gold country and is now poised to rival Napa Valley as the state's foremost wine district.

Horse and Barrel schedules its rides so that they depart from two to four times per day at 9:15am, noon, 3:30pm, and 6pm. The horses and guides are rotated so that they are available for trips seven days per week. Advance bookings are recommended, and confirmation is sent out within 24 hours.

Beside vineyard tours, full trail rides can also be scheduled. Horse and Barrel also offers romantic moonlight rides on the nights of and around each Full Moon, The cost per person is $85 per person and space is limited. Those who wish to schedule family gatherings, hen parties, or other special group events may bring their own horses to complement the rentals.

Horse and Barrel is located at 2000 Nickerson Lane, Murphys, California 95247. Riders must be at least six years of age, or eight in the case of full trail rides. There is no upper age limit. Owing to the nature of the terrain and concern for the welfare of the horses, no rider may weigh more than 300lbs.
