Hollywood Bowl Museum

If you are headed to a concert or performance at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheatre, be sure to spend some time at the Hollywood Bowl Museum before the show begins. You can also make a special trip to the Hollywood Bowl just to visit the museum because it is open year-round during the day. The museum is a chance to explore music and performance in an exciting way that both kids and adults will love. The Soundscape exhibit explains how music is heard at the Hollywood Bowl. It explains the sound delay, shows you how sound waves travel, and explains how music was heard at the venue prior to the advent of microphones and speakers. Visitors will also love speaking or singing into the Sound Spectrogram, allowing you to actually see your voice. You can also manipulate sound, play an Oscylinder Scope, use an Echo Tube, or see yourself sitting anywhere in a computerized version of the Hollywood Bowl. Finally, the Musical Wall allows you to see how wind, string, and percussion instruments work. The museum hosts a variety of musical festivals and performances throughout the year and there are often temporary exhibits featured at the museum. The second floor of the museum is the Museum Resource Center, featuring photographs, audio and video samples, past exhibits, computer workstations, and a museum intranet site.
