Glide Memorial United Methodist Church

Glide Memorial United Methodist Church is located at Ellis Street in San Francisco, California and is approximately 20 minutes drive from San Francisco International Airport. The church was opened in 1931 after Methodist philanthropist Lizzie Glide purchased the land two years before. As well as being a place of worship the church acts as a center for various events and projects to help the community.

The weekly celebratory services take place on Sunday from 9am and 11am, lasting approximately an hour and a half. The sanctuary fills up each time so attendees are advised to arrive half an hour early to ensure they get a seat. Services are also delivered on major holidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas with music sung by the choir and played by the band.

Visitors can also participate in other groups and events throughout the week such as bible study, yoga groups, men's talk and many more besides. Volunteers here help to provide three meals a day for the community's poor and homeless. This is possible with a kitchen and two small dining rooms that between them can accommodate up to 200 people, while bagged dinners are given away at lunch time on weekends.
