Coyote Point Museum

Founded in 1954 by the Junior League of San Francisco, the Coyote Point Museum for Environmental Education is located at 1651 Coyote Point Drive, San Mateo, CA. The museum is 20 miles south of San Francisco and 30 miles north of San Jose.

Coyote Point Museum provides a variety of programs and exhibits giving visitors an introduction to the San Francisco Bay area's natural history. The museum houses nearly 100 non-releasable animals, most of which are native to California. Its garden of primarily native plants serves as a laboratory for many of the museum programs and classes. Finally, the museum exhibits several hands-on science exhibits in the Main Concourse.

Coyote Point Museum hosts several family events every month as well as camps, classes, animal shows, and birthday parties.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and some holidays. The first Sunday of every month is free admission.

The museum is located within the Coyote Point Recreation Area, which features several outdoor activities including: picnicking, windsurfing, swimming, fishing, sailing, boating, bicycling and jogging. It also features a beach promenade, a marina and a saltwater marsh.
