Court Street


The City of Jackson began as a gold mine camp in 1848 and is located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. It has a rich history of the old west and the gold rush era. Jackson has successfully modernized the city while keeping its historic downtown intact at the same time. The downtown district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Court Street is part of the historic district and features the old court house, jail, law office, rectory, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Jackson United Methodist Church and an old family house. A walking tour brochure and guide are available to provide details on all the downtown historic sites.

Jackson hosts a number of seasonal festivities that are well known throughout the Northern California area. Events include: a Farmer's Market, the Gold Country Cruise Car Show, Amador Heritage Day, a few parades and other pubic celebrations. Other attractions in the city include: antique shops, restaurants and the Jackson Rancheria, a hotel and casino.

The nearby attractions include: underground caves with tours, the Shenandoah Valley wineries and a house of outdoor activities such as camping, picnicking, hiking, etc.

Jackson is 45 miles east of Sacramento and Stockton and 90 miles southwest of Lake Tahoe.
