  • Activities or dancing or kids of ALL ages... Burley is a nice, laid-back farming community, but there is not much to do for entertainment that isn't seasonal sports, etcetera. There are only so many times you want to go watch a movie or go bowling. Golfing and clubs get a little pricey for our low-income area. So, what is there to do on Mondays? Come to the Golden Heritage Senior Citizen Center (2421 Overland Ave, Burley) Kathy Marker rents the site from 4:00-9:00 on non-holiday Mondays. She charges a cover charge for the community to enter, to help pay the rental fee: $3/person $5/couple $10/family or group This is a non-drinking, non-smoking activity site. Participate in some old-fashioned social activities: PING PONG (play "Round the World" with about 10-20 people around the table, each with a paddle; a person hits the ball, then everyone moves around the table to the right, until the person receiving the ball hits it back, and all move again. It is an elimination game, if you miss.) foosball board games hoola hoop & jumprope card games ("Spoons" is a favorite) large ball to bounce on, target to throw balls at, and other large toys for youngsters (Lincoln Logs, Barbie and car, blocks to stack, etc). karaoke and beachball volleyball (4-7:00) dance to live country or 50/60s music (7-9:00) You can bring in your own food (Only a few snacks are provided, with a drinking fountain) or non-alcoholic drinks; or order out for delivery. Large tables are available to bring in your own hobbies or games (scrapbooking, crafts, etc). oldies music on tapes and CDs can be chosen to play before the band arrives: 50s-90s; country; classical; kids' fun; hokey pokey, chicken dance, limbo; fiddling or folk songs, etc. Have your parties here: birthday, anniversary, club, sport or other group, family, or friends. We have opportunities for clubs or groups to earn money as a fundraiser: you let us know which night you want to focus on, and tell your friends/family to come in that night. We will mail you a check for 1/2 of the cover charges from your group that night (we may or may not close it to other people wanting to come in). This is something we want to do on a weekly basis, if we can establish it permanantly. We have only been trying this for a few months, and are limited on advertising costs, so this opportunity to share the info with others is great! Please come and see what we have. We are open for any ideas of what YOU would like to see us bring in. We want to show there is an interest in the area, so that we can try to open a permanant site in the area. So, whether you are a group of friends or family, or single and bored at home, we would love to help entertain you. To find the site: From the Burley/Paul exit, head south toward Burley city center. YOu will be on Overland Ave. Pass through 4 lights (27th is the last light). Keep driving along Overland. YOu will pass Pizza Hut on the right. When you see a group of pine trees on the left, that is where the Center is located (if you see the cemetery, you went a little too far). The Sr. Center sits back away from Overland about a block, within the parking lot. It is across from the Asian Buffet Restaurant. See you there...
