About Jeff Temple Show Horses
AQHA professional horseman, Jeff Temple, had a successful Youth career in the show pen exhibiting in multiple events. He capped off his Youth career by achieving the first Maritime AQHA Youth Championship aboard Bar Diamond Kay, a black, 2 y.o. mare purchased by his parents at the 1980 AQHA All-American Congress Sale. Derek Handscome and Kim & Renee Myers of Pennsylvania were instrumental in guiding their purchase. A wealth of youth experience was the perfect foundation for what has become a successful professional career.
Jeff was determined to launch a professional career within the horse industry. After attending Acadia University, he began his first apprenticeship with the late Roger Fenimore (former AQHA's Region 6 Representative) of Circle K Ranch in New York, focusing on Halter and Performance Horses.
Wanting to gear his own training & showing program more towards Pleasure, Jeff ventured to Grayslake, IL. He worked as an assistant to AQHA Judge and Professional Horsewoman, Diane Eppers. Jeff also spent time working with Diane's then-husband, Ken Eppers, a talented and respected reining horse trainer. Jeff gained an invaluable education in Pleasure Horses and was also exposed to the world of Reiners.
In 1990,when the opportunity presented itself to manage the 42-stall boarding facility he was working/training out of in Mt. Uniacke, Nova Scotia, he seized the position. Jeff's time in Mt. Uniacke proved to be: educational (surrounded by seasoned Dressage and Hunter coaches and riders); fulfilling (the facility was running smoothly and for the first time, its owners had a full barn) and rewarding (his training business had grown tremendously). His training success was seen again at the 1993 AQHA All-American Congress with a 6th place win in the Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle resulting in the sale of the gelding.
By 1995, Jeff's training talents were in popular demand. He made the decision that he was ready to manage less and train more. He selected a 15-stall facility in Elmsdale, Nova Scotia and developed a loyal client base interested in showing. The smaller facility made it possible for Jeff to travel and spend more time showing and coaching his clients on the road. As his popularity grew between Canada and the United States, Jeff garnered a reputation as an International clinician.
Jeff continued to see more success as his clients garnered AQHA ROMs, more High Point Year End and Futurity awards. Jeff's show style and expert showmanship at the end of the lead earned Miss Walla Boston her first Superior in Halter and brought about her subsequent sale.
At the 1997 AQHA All-American Congress, Jeff's training talents were seen with 9th place honors in Youth Mares, a Semi-finalist in the Novice Amateur Western Pleasure and a Finalist in the GMC 3 Year Old Derby.
Jeff recognizes that not every part of a program will fit yours but keeping an open mind can prove advantageous to trainers, horses and riders. Always seeking perfection and believing “you can never learn too much,” Jeff invited his mentors to conduct clinics at his facility between horse shows and his own clinics. Clinicians included Rick Gervasio of Florida, Mario Parent of Quebec, AQHA Judge Gretchen Mathes of Connecticut and multiple World & Congress Champion Cleve Wells of Texas. He has especially enjoyed working with AQHA and NSBA carded judges, Bill and Tina Kaven. Tina is an NSBA Hall of Fame Rider with over $250,000 in western pleasure winnings.
In 1998 Jeff purchased a fabulous facility in Shubenacadie, that allowed Troy Compton for his first Maritime visit. The clinic was a huge success and with that it created the opportunity to visit Troy's Oklahoma facility.
The limelight shone on Jeff at the 2003 Congress with another Novice Amateur Western Pleasure Semi-Finalist. After the 2003 Congress, Jeff sent Blazeless to Troy's farm to prepare for the 2004 AQHA Select World Show.
2004 was another amazing year for Jeff with a Junior Western Pleasure Finalist, Novice Youth Western Pleasure Finalist and a NYATT Western Pleasure Finalist. Once again, 2005 brought with it another Finalist in Junior Western Pleasure at Congress, followed by 2006 with an Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation Finalist and Novice Amateur Equitation Finalist.
Most recently, Jeff and his clients have worked with Shane Dowdy, another world champion trainer. Working with Shane confirmed Jeff's longtime belief in broadening his training horizons. The success of Jeff's clients is proof that his diversified and personalized training program produces winning results. Since 2004 Jeff and his clients have been Finalists at the AQHA All-American Congress more than a dozen times in multiple events from Junior Western Pleasure, Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle Futurity, Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation, Youth Western Pleasure and more.
Jeff's success continued in 2008 with Championships at the AQHA Region 6 Show, sweeping the Walk/Trot, 13 and under, Novice Amateur Western Pleasure and Junior Western Pleasure. In 2009, Jeff produced a Western Pleasure Maturity Limited Division Finalist.
