- Lack of effective pest exclusion
Effective measures are not being taken to protect against the contamination of food on the premises by pests. Specifically, the last onsite pest control was on April 15, 2014, by Aardvark Termite & Pest Control, Albia. No effective rodent traps were observed in the warehouse proper, and evidence of other insect activity is present in spider webs.
- Floors, walls and ceilings
The plant is not constructed in such a manner as to allow walls and ceilings to be adequately cleaned and kept clean. Specifically, there are large areas of peeling paint above and all around open boxes of packaged goods on the warehouse walls.
- Odor, attractant for pests, harborage
The storage of rubbish does not minimize the potential for waste becoming an attractant and harborage or breeding place for pests. Specifically, the large designated area for out-dated and bad product along the west wall of the warehouse needs to be minimized.
- Spacing of equipment
Aisles or working spaces between equipment and walls are of inadequate width. Specifically, pallets of food are stored against the warehouse walls with no separation that allows for cleaning, pest control or condensate/moisture barrier.
- Screening
Failure to provide adequate screening or other protection against pests. Specifically, the gap between the floor and bottom of overhead doors. --Failure to provide adequate screening or other protection against pests. Specifically, four windows along the west exterior wall of the warehouse are either broken out entirely or inadequately sealed.
- Insecticides/rodenticides
Use of rodenticides without observing necessary precautions and restrictions to protect against contamination of food and/or food-packaging materials. Specifically, d-con rat/mouse poison (storage room) states on the label that it is not to be used where there is a possibility of contamination with food.
- Buildings/sanitary
Failure to maintain buildings, fixtures, or other physical facilities in a sanitary condition. Specifically, a thorough cleaning of the warehouse is needed.
