Barker Dam Trail

Barker Dam Trail is located in the Joshua Tree National Park, California. There are many amazing views available along the trail, which is a 1.3 mile loop that starts just north of the Barker Dam parking lot.

The trail leads to the one and only lake in the national park. The lake is dry at times throughout the year. There is also an old dam along the trail, this dam was used by early cattle ranchers for their stocks, it is recommended that visitors do not climb on the narrow top of the dam for safety reasons. When the lake is full the water can flow up onto the trail, hikers will need to climb onto the rocks to go past these areas, unless they are wearing good waterproof hiking shoes.

Visitors will see many native animals along the trail, including tarantulas. All visitors are encouraged to leave the animals alone, for their safety and the animals. There are no garbage bins along the Barker Dam Trail, so all visitors are asked to take out with them what they bought in, please do not take and fauna out of the National Park either.
