9. Syracuse, New York
Golf courses and country club establishments per 100,000 people: 8.2
Establishments located in metro: 53
Metro population: 648,593
Another top destination with a short season is Syracuse, New York, where you'll find diverse terrain and challenging courses for the most seasoned golfers. You can play one of the oldest courses in the United States at Onondaga Golf and Country Club, which was designed in 1898. A more contemporary choice is the Timber Banks Golf Club, which features a Jack Nicklaus design and opened in 2009. That course plays 7,300 yards from the tips and is famous for its undulating, quick greens and cavernous bunkers.
What is interesting about that list is that Utica-Rome is #6 on that list and would be a reasonable option for those that are looking for other places to play, since you can get to much of that area within 30-45 minutes.
Other places in the area that seem to be popular are Bellevue Country Club on the far SW corner of the city, Lyndon in Fayetteville/DeWitt, Foxfire in the Village Green development in Van Buren/Baldwinsville area and Radisson Greens in the Radisson Community in Lysander/Baldwinsville area, among others. Even within the Syracuse Park system, you have 9 hole golf courses at Sunnycrest and Burnet Parks in Eastwood and the Tipperary Hill neighborhood on the West Side, respectively.
Best Golf Courses in the Syracuse area according to my research
Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville
Green Lakes Golf Course in Fayetteville
Shenandoah at Turning Stone Casino Resort
Pleasant Knolls at Turning Stone Casino Resort
Sandstone Hollows at Turning Stone Casino Resort
Kaluhyat at Turning Stone Casino Resort
Technically, the Turning Stone Casino/Resort courses would be in the Utica-Rome area, as Oneida County is the main county in that area and that is where the casino/resort is located. That would explain that area's high ranking, as mentioned earlier in the thread.
Radisson, Bellevue Country Club, Foxfire, Onondaga(private), Lyndon, Orchard Vali and Drumlins are some of the other more popular spots in the immediate area. Before it closed, the Lafayette Country Club would host this PGA event: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MONY_S...Senior_Classic
I edited the best Golf Courses in Syracuse from your quote. I left out one and two others at Turning Stone Casino Resort aren't as good as the others.
Turning Stone Casino is just over the Metropolitan Area border in the Utica Metropolitan area. Turning Stone Casino Golf Courses are only about 45 minutes from Syracuse, sp that is why I included them.
I can imagine with enough growth in the area, someday Syracuse and Utica would be one Combined Statistical Area....the Syracuse, Utica, Rome, Auburn CSA...since they are so close and Turning Stone Casino Resort employs almost 5,000 people is half way between Syracuse and Utica.

In terms of the bolded, if not closer, depending on where you are coming from/going to.
It is very possible between the Drone Tech and Chip manufacturing sectors connecting the metro areas. Let alone that the two areas historically share(d) some media and the schools are all in Section 3 for scholastic sports. That CSA would have about 1.03 million people today.
