Nimbus Dam

The Nimbus Dam is located in Sacramento and is a base load hydroelectric dam. It is located on the American River, which is near the town of Fair Oaks. Nearly 9,000-acre feet of water is retained by the damn and the elevation is 112-feet above sea level. The historical marker for the dam is nearby and surrounding the dam are a variety of hiking trails. Fair Oaks is about two and a half miles away and is known for the Fair Oaks Theater Festival. In addition to the theater festival, the town holds an annual spring festival. One of the quirkiest aspects of the town is the way in which wild chickens run loose all over the village. They fight and play with one another, beg for scraps of food, and roost in the playground equipment, much the way pigeons do in other cities. As one might expect, there is also an annual chicken festival held by the town, as well as a yearly dog walk.
