• Kaufman County ARES, Inc. is a division of the American Radio Relay League, Inc. - Amateur Radio Emergency Service program. We are a non-profit organization made up of volunteer amateur (ham) radio operators that give their time and equipment to help support our communities during times of emergency and public service. ARES® is a program that was started in the 1930's to help provide emergency communications through out the country. Kaufman County ARES, Inc. is designed to provide the same services at the county level for Kaufman. This does not mean that we can not help out others outside of our location. Each year thousands of amateur radio operators give hundreds of thousands of hours to their communities during emergencies or public service events. Even in a day and age when you have high-tech gadgets and items that are supposed to help you out, there are times that amateur radio operators can make all the difference. The motto for amatuer radio operators is "When All Else Fails, Amateur Radio". This organization is free to join and open to all individuals that wish to help make a difference in the community. No amateur radio license is required, though it is required to operate any radio equipment.
