2. Mystery Cove Book Shop

City: Hulls Cove, ME
Category: Shopping
Telephone: (207) 288-4665
Address: Crooked Rd. at Dewey St.

Description: You have to do some serious sleuthing to find this gem of a mystery book store, but any fan of noir thrillers and whodunits will want to track down owner Steve Powell and check out his collection of close to 10,000 rare and hard-to-find titles. Together with his partner, William Dunn, who runs a shop in Connecticut, Powell has access to 20,000 more books, so if there is an obscure gumshoe you’re into, you’ll likely be able to find the tome here. And if you can’t, Powell will surely know how to get it. Bar Harbor itself has a history with the mystery—they’ve been written in town since before the turn of the 20th century and continue to this day with the works of Janwillem van de Wetering. Powell deals in mysterious cinematic materials as well. Worth the detective work.
