1. General Creek At Sugar Pine Point State Park

City: Tahoma, CA
Category: Accommodations
Telephone: (800) 444-7275 (reservations)
Address: 1 mile south of Tahoma

Description: As part of Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, General Creek campground enjoys a lovely tree-shaded setting along the west shore of Lake Tahoe (see the Parks chapter for more details). Services for the 175 tent and RV sites include piped water, showers (summer only), flush toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. It is open all year and, because of heavy summer use, I recommend making reservations in advance for stays planned for July and August. Although the park extends across CA 89, there are no campsites on that side, but you can still enjoy swimming, biking, and hiking in the area. Daily fees are around $25, and pets are OK on leashes.

2. General Creek Loop Ride

City: Tahoma, CA
Category: Parks & Recreation
Telephone: (530) 525-7982
Address: 1 mile south of Tahoma

Description: You don’t have to have legs of steel for the General Creek Loop Ride. In fact, you can be a first-time mountain biker and get along just fine. Snaking through the forest for about 6 miles, the trail is mostly level and easy to navigate. Look for the trail-head in Sugar Pine Point State Park.
