Patio Playhouse

For more than four decades, the Patio Playhouse has offered a venue where people of all ages can participate in live drama and learn new skills. Incorporated in 1967, this diverse theatre group is dedicated to theatrical arts education and presentation. It focuses on providing affordable, quality entertainment along with opportunities for members of the community to have roles in award-winning shows, from drama to comedy. Godspell, The Taming of the Shrew, and City of Angels are among selections recently staged.

As a federally chartered non-profit, the organization relies entirely on volunteers for all aspects of its operations from management to barnstorming and acting; there are no salaried employees. The work here is supported exclusively by membership dues, box office receipts, tax-deductible donations, and concession stand commissions. There are no audition or performance fees.

Each season, six productions are offered: two musicals priced at $14~$17 and four non-musicals priced at $12~$14. Adult season tickets for six shows are available for $60, with a $10 discount offered to seniors aged 60 years and over. The group's Youtheatre also involves children in performances at their schools.

The Patio Playhouse Community & Youtheatre is located at 201 East Grand Avenue, Suite 1D, Escondido, California 92030-0450. The patio for which it is named opens onto South Kalmia Street. Summer performances are held outdoors at the Kit Carson Amphitheatre.
