D.L. Bliss State Park

The D.L. Bliss State Park, located just north of Emerald Bay, is found on the west short of Lake Tahoe. The 744-acre park features a large balancing rock, the Rubicon Point Light, the highest lighthouse in the United States and scenic views of Emerald Bay, Fannette Island and Lake Tahoe.

The 130-ton Balancing Rock has been an attraction for visitors since the late 1800's. It is at the end point of a short, half mile self-guided nature trail. A brochure is available at the trailhead that highlights different plants, animals and soil within the park.

D.L. Bliss Park provides summer activities for visitors including: hiking and nature trails, fishing, swimming, picnic tables and camping in the summer. The campground is open from May to September, depending on the weather.

During winter, the park is a short distance away from several ski lodges and other winter parks that provide cross country skiing, snow shoeing and snowmobiling.

The nearby towns of Tahoe City and South Lake Tahoe provide numerous dining, shopping and lodging choices. The Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe also features casinos and nightly entertainment.

The park is 17 miles south of Tahoe City, 25 miles west of South Lake Tahoe and 110 miles east of Sacramento, CA.
