California Heritage Museum

Located on Main Street in Santa Monica, the California Heritage Museum welcomes children and adults to view the decorative arts and historic collections that represent the state. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 am until 4 pm. Admission rates are $5 and below, with discounts offered for seniors and children. The museum opened in 1980 and has been sharing its historic, artistic, cultural, and folk crafting displays with visitors ever since. The building is an historic landmark and was built in 1894. It served as the home for the son of the founder of Santa Monica, Roy Jones. The building was designed by local architect Sumner P. Hunt. The permanent collection at the museum includes pottery pieces and furniture, and is highlighted throughout the year by a variety of special exhibits. Many of these exhibits include period pieces of furniture and fine art from California's history. The museum offers some free parking nearby and there is paid parking closer to the beach. On Sundays there is a farmer's market held at the museum. This is a great time to bring the family out for a visit and take home fresh fruits, vegetables, and cut flowers following a tour of the museum.
