Remarks: ID BY SMITHSSONIAN. EITHER WESTERN OR CLARK'S GREBE. DNA ANALYSIS UNABLE TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THEM. ENTERED AS WESTERN BY DEFAULT. DOWNWIND FOR RWY 35 BIRD HIT LEFT SIDE OF NOSE CONE. UPON REGAINING CONTROL OF THE A/C. I TURNED BACK TO ORIGINAL HEADING AND SLOWED AIR SPEED TO 60 KTS. ALL GAUGES WERE WITHIN NORMAL PARAMETERES. FELT VIBRATION AND MASSIVE AIR RUSHING THRU CABIN. FOUND BIRD HAD ENTERED CABIN. INSTRUCTOR AND CABIN WERE COVERED IN BLOOD. MADE RADIO CALL TO BMC AREA TRAFFIC AND INTENTION OF LDG RWY 35. CAME TO 15 FOOT HOOVER AS I WAS AFRAID MY DEPTH PERCEPTION MIGHT BE OFF DUE TO BLOOD SPLATTER IN LEFT EYE. I MOVED OVER TO A LIGHTED AREA IN FRONT OF A HANGER AND SET DOWN. DUE TO SMELL IN A/C I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO THROW UP SO I CAME BACK INTO A 5' HOOVER THEN PROCEDED TO LAND. BOTH PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. A/C WILL BE DOWN FOR 2 MONTHS. LOST REVENUE WAS $396.000. ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIRS 100,000. COST WILL BE UPDATED WHEN REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED NEXT MONTH.
