Description: This bakery is a treasure, and while visitors might see it as being smack-dab out in nowhere, they have to admit it’s busy. In fact, people drive from all over Southern California for a loaf of Dudley’s bread. And if you’re going to Julian, it’s an absolute “must stop.” (But remember—it’s closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.) The bread is so good, you’ll want to take some home, but which loaf? There are 17 different types to tempt you, including loaves of bright orange cheddar cheese bread and enormous, 1.5-pound rounds of date-nut, sheepherder, or jalapeño bread. Dudley’s also has a cafe, which is especially busy during holidays and on weekends. But that’s okay. While you wait you can snack on the bread you’ve bought.
