Description: Big kids come here mostly for the musical entertainment—more than 100 concerts a year featuring classic rock bands, hot country artists, and other performers. But it’s also a terrific place to bring the family for a day or two of boating, fishing, and swimming. Located on the shores of Clear Lake in Lake County, the 120-acre resort is a 60-minute drive north of Calistoga. It has tennis and volleyball courts, miniature golf, a playground, water craft rentals, and even a spa for mom and dad. Just about every type of lake-skimming vessel is available for rent: fishing boats, kayaks, pedal boats, pontoons, wave boards, and more. The two Olympic-size swimming pools can substitute for the lake, if the family prefers chlorinated water to the natural kind (with two wading pools nearby for toddlers). Here’s another bonus for parents: the Konocti Kids Club Program, a child-sitting service (for an extra charge) that keeps your 4- to 13-year-olds occupied with activities while you boogie with Journey or the Doobie Brothers at the amphitheater. If you choose to spend a night or two, Konocti has apartments and cottages specifically sized and furnished with families in mind. Concert-night lodgings can sell out quickly, so plan ahead if you want the full experience.
