Zen Center of Los Angeles

The Zen Center of Los Angeles offers a place for people who are looking to attain emotional and mental peace to practice Zen. It was founded in 1967 by Taizan Maezumi Roshi and offers classes, teaching, fellowship and practice space for all who choose to attend. The mission of the Zen Center is to " know the Self, maintain the precepts, and serve others." The are proud to play a small role in the enlightenment of the world, bringing peace, harmony, balance and wisdom to all who enter the center. The Zen Center accepts people of all genders, ages, ethnicity, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation, religion, race and socio-economic backgrounds. It is the belief of many practitioners that Zen can be combined with all religious faiths in a supportive and well-balanced manner. The center observes a daily schedule of zazen, work and Buddhist services including classes, workshops, training experiences and sesshin. They also offer one-on-one counseling sessions with the center's teachers. The center features a residential training community that allows students to live on the Great Dragon Mountain campus in one of two apartment buildings. The residential program offers an opportunity to deepen Zen practice, expand their stewardship of the center and incorporate their Zen practice into their lives.
