Towe Auto Museum

The Towe Auto Museum, which is now known as the California Auto Museum, was conceived by a group of volunteers in 1982. The museum opened on May 1, 1987 and displayed the personal collection of Edward Towe. The collection consisted entirely of Ford automobiles. During the mid-1990's Mr. Towe lost his collection in a dispute with the IRS and the collection was removed from the museum. In 2009, the board of directors officially renamed the Towe Auto Museum to the California Auto Museum. Today, approximately 25% of the vehicles on display are owned by the California Vehicle Foundation and the remaining 75% are privately owned. Privately owned vehicles are leased to the museum for anywhere between three months to five years, which means the collection changes frequently.

The location of the museum is 2200 Front Street, Sacramento, CA. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors 65 and above, $4 for students with a valid student ID, and free for children under 4. The museum has an active following and sends out a monthly newsletter. People can purchase memberships, which gives them access to the museum and special insider deals. The museum also holds several seasonal events including fundraisers and auto shows.
