Richardson Bay Audubon Center

Richardson Bay is deemed to be one of the most unspoiled estuaries on the Pacific Coast. It supplies nourishment and solitude for a large assortment of waterfowl, including over 40,000 diving ducks and other water birds. The bay's connected marshes and regional shore zones maintain a wide array of animal and plant life. Richardson Bay has been selected as an Important Bird Area (or IBA), based upon the huge number of yearly bird visitors, year-round inhabitants, and strategic location in the flyway. Audubon in Richardson Bay uses an ecosystem methodology in educating, conserving and restoring functioning ecosystems. This approach benefits bird species and other species of wildlife that use the bay area as a source of food and habitation.Richardson Bay Audubon Center's educational agendas promote a passion for the outdoors and encourage a sense of ownership in the ecosystem of the bay area. The Center is a focal point of a diverse bay ecosystem that contains both land and water habitats, providing an exciting outdoor classroom. The learning curriculums take the natural world as it happens in the region and incorporates it with the best traditional methods of teaching environmental studies. Staff members strive to make the educational process fun while injecting California's Science Content Standards. Families and groups are encouraged to participate in weekend programs that explore and connect the visitors with the environment.
