Oakville Grade

A very steep and windy road that is a popular biking trail for professional bikers, Oakville Grade travels from Highway 29 in Oakville to Dry Creek Road.

This trail, sometimes used for training Olympic athletes, is known as the toughest trail to climb in the Napa Valley. The road climbs 650 feet in elevation in just one mile. It is also a great road to take in order to see excellent views of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Because of the intense curves, the drive is not recommended for those who suffer from motion sickness.

Also in the area is rumored to be a secret underground security installation built by the United States Government. Supposedly built in the late 1980's in response to nuclear threat, the bunkers are rumored to be numerous and built of cement at the top of the mountain.

Equidistant from several area airports, the Oakville Grade sits 70 miles north of San Francisco International Airport, 70 miles west of Sacramento International Airport, and 60 miles north of Oakland International Airport. Visitors will find nearby tourist sites, including Napa Valley Wine Train, Andretti Winery and other wineries, Napa Valley Country Club, Traintown Railroad Rides, Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park, and Jelly Belly Candy Company.
