MacKerricher State Park


MacKerricher State Park is near Fort Bragg, California. It is a state owned property that helps protect natural resources and beauty found in the area. It also protects a variety of habitats like the dunes, forest, wetlands, and tidepools. Often visitors can see seals laying out on the rocks or frolicking in the waves. About 90 different species of birds live or migrate to the state park. Cleone Lake is a tidal lagoon where many of the birds flock.

In winter and spring, the bluffs in the park are perfect for whale watching. Humpback whales tend to travel along the coast going from Alaska to Hawaii and back again. The park is also a haven for bikers, equestrians, hikers, and joggers who enjoy getting out in nature. Fishing at Cleone Lake is possible. Furthermore, the park has a wheelchair accessible trail head, so that everyone can enjoy the state park.

To get into the park visitors need to travel on Highway 1 three miles to the north of Fort Bragg. There is a strop of beach between Fort Bragg and Ten Mile River for sunbathers and swimmers. The weather is often very warm in summer, but can be cool in winter months.
