Kings Creek Falls

A favorite destination for photographers, Kings Creek Falls is nestled in Lassen Volcanic National Park about 12 miles from the south entrance. The trail to the falls includes forest, flowers, a 1,000-foot whitewater cascade, a moderate hiking challenge, and the rewarding view of the falls at the end.

At a height of 43 feet, Kings Creek Falls runs generally from June to September and is the favorite hike of Lassen Volcanic National Park. There is a two-mile trail that takes hikers along the creek to the falls and back. The hike ascends approximately 700 feet and is fairly craggy close to the creek. Hikers should plan to spend two hours on this trail, which starts at road marker 32 of Highway 89.

The trailhead offers ample parking on both sides of the highway about midway between the north and south entrances to Lassen Volcanic National Park. Once at the falls, visitors can view the waterfall on a railed overlook from above or climb down to the bottom of the falls for a closer look.

Kings Creek Falls is about a three hour drive northwest of Reno, NV and about 60 miles east of Redding, CA. Lassen Cinder Cone, Lassen Volcanic National Park Visitor Center, Lake Almanor, and numerous campgrounds are all located within 50 miles of Kings Creek Falls.
