Jalama Beach County Park

About five miles south of Lompoc off California Highway 1 and down a 14.5-mile road to the coast, the Jalama Beach County Park offers an excellent venue for camping and windsurfing. Its Jalama Beach Store and Grill is also the only place in the world that serves the famed Jalama Burger, made with lean ground beef, topped with sliced veggies on a grilled bun with secret Jalama burger sauce.

The 23.5 acres of land that the park occupies was once a Chumash Indian settlement called "Halama," hence the name of Jalama Creek and the beach. In 1943, the privately owned property was donated to the County of Santa Barbara and the park was formed.

Facilities here include day-use picnic areas with tables and raised fire boxes. Fishing is possible from the shore, with perch, bass, and halibut often caught from the rock outcroppings. Other activities to enjoy here are whale-watching, bird watching, nature photography, and rock hounding.

Tent, trailer, and RV camping is permitted at 98 designated campsites, each one overlooking the ocean or beachfront. Each site has a picnic table and BBQ pit, with. Of these, 29 sites have electrical hookups. Hot showers, restrooms and water are nearby.

The Jalama Beach County Park is located at 9999 Jalama Road, Lompoc, California 93436. There is an $8 fee per vehicle for entry. Dogs are allowed upon payment of a $3 surcharge. Camping rates start at $25 per night. Visitors should note that the waters here have dangerous offshore riptides. Although swimming and surfing are permitted, considerable caution should be exercised.
