Eaton Canyon Natural Area

The Eaton Canyon Natural Area has 190 acres of land based on zoological, geological, and botanical nature preservation. The area is located in Pasadena, California in the San Gabriel Mountains. Visitors are able to walk around the natural preserve using the dirt and equestrian trails. There are also places for picnics, a staging area, and a seasonal stream. Several rocks, minerals, natural habitats, wildlife, and native plants can be seen during a tour of Eaton Canyon Natural Area.

One prolific inhabitant of the park is the Great Basin Fence Lizard. This lizard suns itself on rocks throughout the Eaton Canyon Natural Area. There is a nature center, opened in 1998, to help visitors learn about the area they are visiting. The building is 7,600 square feet and contains a variety of displays, live animals, classrooms, offices, an auditorium, and gift shop. The center is staffed with volunteers and paid park employees who can answer any question about the natural area visitors might have.

The park center is open 9am to 5pm, with the park open from sunrise to sunset. The visitor center is located at 1750 N. Altadene Drive. There are three nature trails at the park: Fire Ecology, Junior Nature, and Oak Terrace Nature Trail.
