Cerro San Luis

San Luis Obispo, California is home to the 1292 foot mountain known as Cerro San Luis Obispo. It is part of a chain of mountain peaks that are known as Nine Sisters. The mountain is also known as Madonna Mountain, Mount San Luis and San Luis Mountain. The steep terrain and amazing views make it popular with hikers and mountain bikers.

The peak of the mountain can be reached by following the wide dirt road up the San Luis. Oranges and lemons were planted on the mountain by G.W. Chandler, a Civil War veteran in approximately 1900 when he lived on the mountain. Two springs water the trees that are still overlooking the city. The groves on the mountain are where the Lemon Grove Trail which is found at the mountain's base got its name.

The Madonna Inn was built at the base by Alex Madonna who purchased a ranch on the slopes during 1958. The Cerro San Luis offers numbers trails for jogging, mountain biking or hiking. There is access to Lemon Grove Loop and Open Space at the main trailhead found at Marsh Street's end. Those looking for a relaxing experience in nature should contact the facility together.
