American Legion Log Cabin

The purpose of the American Legion is to serve the needs of war veterans, of all wars, their widows, and dependent children. One way in which it accomplishes this mission is by creating venues for members and their families to gather for socializing, dining, and community programs. In the San Anselmo area of Marin County, the American Legion is represented by Post 179, which has its headquarters in a rustic log cabin.

The historic American Legion Log Cabin is almost 80 years old. It was built by the group in 1933 and has been holding meetings on the second Thursday of each month ever since. A Boy Scout Troop has also used the facility since its establishment, meeting in the upstairs hall. Today, the cabin's Dugout bar is considered among the best places to hang out in the county, open to the public from 6pm until 2am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Drinks are inexpensive and use of the pool table is free.

The American Legion Log Cabin is available for events on a rental basis. It features a full kitchen, a stage, a working fireplace, and a full bar. Recreational facilities include a shuffleboard table, a darts board, dice pinball, and videogames. It is one of the county's official election-day polling venues, too.

The American Legion Log Cabin is in Memorial Park behind the Red Hill Shopping Center just off of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The address is 120 Veterans Place,

San Anselmo, California 94960.
